I work with clients to determine what approach will best fit their needs and personality. Some clients respond best to insight oriented approaches to talk about and gain new perspectives on their experiences while others find comfort in building strategies and concrete coping tools. We will talk about what feels right for you.
I am trained in evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) including trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialetical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have also been a trainer to clinicians across Canada and the US in the Triple P - Positive Parenting Program.
Children
Young children naturally express how they are feeling through play. I use play based interventions, art, games and stories to support children in processing their thoughts and feelings and developing adaptive ways of coping. Parents/caregivers are also an integral aspect of treatment and may join sessions in full, for part of the session, or through separate caregiver only sessions.
